Unpaid Graduates
The engineers produced by Kerala before independence had flown away to different corners of the world. Even today, there are many Malayalee engineers at the helm of global engineering companies and as responsible employees in leading companies. Many engineering colleges have been established in Kerala since 1939 when the College of Engineering was set up in Thiruvananthapuram. The number of students passing out from these colleges every year is very huge. Study reports have shown that these engineering graduates are facing a major crisis when it comes to employment. The Kerala faction of All India Professional Congress has brought out a shocking report that most of them are working at wages much less than that of unskilled labourers. Today, Nammalariyanam takes a look at the factors responsible for the present pitiable condition of our engineering graduates.
