At the end of the two-day long agitation and havoc across the state, as many as 745 were arrested, 628 were taken to preventive custody and cases 559 were charged for the violence. Traders who tried to open shops on the day of harthal lost their faith in government, when the latter failed to keep their word on extending protection. Fifty shops were attacked in Kasargod and Kozhikode. The trails of protest went beyond the border, to the national capital, where an effigy of the Chief Minister was burnt near Kerala House.
