‘Human Chain For A Better Future’ Sees Massive Student Turn-Out In Chelembra
Malappuram: Chelembra grama panchayat, which boasts of being the first first-aid literate civic body in the country, has notched up another distinction now. More than 5,000 people, predominantly girls and women, turned out in strength to form a human chain eight kilometres long as part of an environment awareness effort initiated by Devaki Amma’s Guruvayurappan College of Architecture, with the active co-operation of the panchayat. Kondotty Block Panchayat Vice President Jameela M, panchayat member C Rajesh, Dr. C N Balakrishnan Nambiar, Dr. G Babu and Sales Eapen, all principals of Devaki Amma Memorial Institutions, Narayanan Nair Memorial HSS Head Mistress R P Bindu and Principal K Sadanandan provided the lead. Students, teachers and PTAs of other educational institutions like Bhavan’s Law College, Bhavan’s Teacher Education Centre, Calicut University Physical Education department, Chelembra ALP School, Cheloopadama MMAUP School, Elambilassery ALP School, Kolakattuchakli UP School, Native AUP School, Peruntodippadam UP School, Pulliparamba AUP School and Vallikkunnu ALP School too participated. Employees of Calicut University, Chelembra panchayath, village, health and agriculture departments, Asha, anganwadi and kudumbasree workers also joined the human chain for a better future. They all took an oath to shun plastic and work towards reducing pollution.
