The relation between the national ruling party and the election commission was not much to speak of in Kerala this election season. The problem started when Chief Election Officer Teeka Ram Meena warned candidates against raising the Sabarimala issue during election campaigning pointing out that it is a violation of Model Code of Conduct. The commission had served a notice to Thrissur NDA candidate Suresh Gopi for invoking the name of Lord Ayyappa during a campaign. They had also registered case against BJP state chief Adv PS Sreedharan Pillai for making communal remarks in a speech during the campaign. Now, the BJP state president says that he will file a defamation case against state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Teeka Ram Meena.
