A protege of Indira Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee was a powerful leader from West Bengal who handled major ministerial portfolios in various Congress cabinets during his five-decade long political career. One of the most admired politicians of the Congress, Pranab Da was a political strategist and a saviour of the party. Though he wanted to become a Prime Minister, the Congress made India's first citizen in 2012. He was popularly known as the Citizen's President. His demise is a huge loss for the nation.
